International Crisis Group Criticizes Role of Egypt and UAE in Libyan Crisis.
Pulbished on:
Brussels, 26 February 2015(Lana) The International Crisis Group
said the international community should not follow the example of
Egypt and the UAE, in supporting the anti-Islamic factions in the
Libyan crisis, and should encourage the two parties to the conflict
to reach a peaceful solution.
In a report it issued on Thursday, ICG said Egypt and UAE support
Tobruk politically and militarily, and looked more interested in
defeating Islamic politicians than saving Libya, and often encourage
escalation rather than restoring quiet and order.
It described the countries which support the National Salvation
Government as more inclined to support reconciliation and the
UN-backed talks.
The Brussels-based group underlined the need for keeping
sovereign institutions such as the Central Bank of Libya, the oil and
gas and the investment portfolios independent of the rival groups.
Hard choices have to be taken for enforcing a peace deal, the
group said.
