Participants in Meeting on Security on Common Borders Between Libya, Chad, Sudan and Niger Urge Libyan Parties to Resume Talks to End Crisis in the Country.

Niamey, 5 April 2108(Lana) Ministers attending a consultation meeting on common borders security challenges held in Niger have urged Libyan parties to resume talks to end the crisis in the country. The foreign, defence and interior ministers and chiefs of staff and heads of intelligence in Libya, Sudan, Chad and Niger have met here on Tuesday April 3, upon an invitation from Mohamed Yusuf President of Niger, to discuss challenges on common borders. The Ministers have agreed to coordinate action, to combat cross-border infiltrations, organized crime, trafficking, terrorism and drug smuggling. They stressed the need to help bring about a lasting solution to the situation in Libya, and in this regard the ministers highly valued the AU effort through the High-level Committee and other partners for their initiatives to resolve the crisis in Libya. The Ministers also agreed a meeting for experts, to be held in Ndjamena, Chad on May 3,2018, to prepare a draft agreement, to be signed in Khartoum before the end of May 2018. The Ministers have also agreed on coordination of work by joint forces of the defence and security in the four countries. They called for development projects to be initiated on the joint borders to support the common border security. =Lana=
