000 Migrant Children in Need of Assistance in Libya. Tunis, 20 December 2017(Lana) The International Organisation of Migration IOM and UNICEF have said that 36.000 migrant children were in need for assistance in Libya, according to figures disclosed on the International Migration Day. Nearly 15000 children unaccompanied by their parents arrived in Italy via a dangerous route through the Mediterranean from Libya, the organisation said on its website. UNCEF estimates that 400 children have died in the attempt to make the journey since the start of the year. UNICEF and IOM have joined ranks in their effort to extend assistance to migrant children in Libya, focusing on children protection, education, sanitation and health services issues. Our goal is to protect more children and reach the most vulnerable ones, the head of the IOM mission in Libya Othman Belbisi said. UNICEF Special Representative in Libya Abdul Rahman Ghandour said 'migrant children are the most vulnerable, and the agreement with IOM is key to our work to protect them, and we hope to be able to give children access to education, protection and basic needs. =Lana=
