Pulbished on:
Tripoli, 6 August 2017(Lana) Italy was convinced that combating illegal migration had to be done with serious and real cooperation with Libya, the Libyan Coast Guard official spokesman Ayub Gassem said. 'What the Italian side is doing to support the Libyan Coast Guard will cost us a lot if we decide to do it on our own, Gassem told the Italian Aki news agency. The Coast Guard mission is to support the Navy, to confront the trafficking, he said. Gassem said the Libyan Navy is against violation of Libyan territorial waters, and what we opted was to safeguard Libyan sovereignty in the Sea. 'The Libyan Navy is activating a 2008 agreement which Italy now takes very seriously, Gassem said adding that 'we will continue to work on that agreement and that an Italian vessel will arrive in Tripoli on August 18 for maintenance of Libyan Navy vessels. Italian Defence Minister Roberta Benotte told the Italian Senate Defence Committee the mission was to offer technical and logistical assistance to upgrade the capacity of the Libyan Navy. =Lana=
