Italian Parliament Endorses Mission to Assist Libyan Coast Guard Confronting Illegal Migration.

Rome, 2 August 2017(Lana) The Italian Parliament has endorsed the Italian Navy mission to help Libyan Coast Guard forces combat trafficking and illegal migration according to Italian news agency 'Aki'. Italian Defense Minister Roberta Benotte said at House and Senate Defense and Foreign Committees hearing on Tuesday that the mission of the Italian Navy vessels would ensure logistical support and training and technical assistance to Libyan Navy forces to upgrade their capabilities. The Minister denied that the mission was an intervention or otherwise a violation of Libyan sovereignty, and said 'our goal is to promote sovereignty by enabling the country to exercise full traditional activities of sovereign states.' However, the Government of National Accord has adamantly said that what it asked from Italy was logistical and training assistance for the Libyan Coast Guard forces to deal with traffickers and illegal migration. =Lana=
