National Human Rights Committee Issues Urgent Appeal for UN Security Council to Intervene to Stop Fighting East of Libyan Capital Tripoli

\nTripoli, 11 July 2017(Lana) The Libyan National Human Rights Committee on Tuesday called for an immediate ceasefire in Al Garabouli east of the capital Tripoli \nThe Committee said it followed with a great deal of concern the bloody events taking place in the area of Al Gueia and Al Garabouli for two days which have led to a number of causalities and caused a number of families to flee their homes after rockets began to fall indiscriminately on them.\nThe Committee reminded all parties of their responsibilities under international law to protect civilians , and appealed to the UN Security Council to urgently intervention to stop the serious escalation \n\nThe Committee called on UN Human Rights Commission and the International Criminal Court to impose sanctions on parties involved and to track down those involved in the military escalation and targeting of civilians and the use of heavy weapons given that such acts constitute a war crime under the international humanitarian law.\nIt also called on the UN Sanctions Committee to invoke the UN Security Council Resolutions and No 2174 and 2259 which call for apprehension of those who plan or commit actions in violation of the International Humanitarian law.\n=Lana=\n
